Let's Get Kids Moving!

I was very fortunate to grow up playing lots of sports. I had recess and got to spend a lot of time outside running around. Having a background of moving around a lot really helped influence the healthy life style I am able to live now. I want to pass that on.

Think about this:

You wake your kids up for school. They head into the kitchen and sit down to have breakfast. Then it’s sitting in the car to get to school. While in school you kids sits still for 8 hours, getting up only a handful of times each day, just for a couple minutes. Then, sitting on the bus to get home. Sitting at the kitchen table doing homework, and then sitting on the couch playing with their new iPad before going to bed and starting the loop over again.

I believe that movement is the key to a happy and healthy life. Kids are glued to screens and seats for a majority of the day. Recess is getting cut for more sitting and Physical Education is a thing of the past.

Kids don’t need a strict training regiment. But, there needs to be a template of fun and games mixed in with teaching good form and movement patterns to undo all the sitting and to help build strong bones, muscles and ligaments.

Enter the new Physical Education:

Gain for Kids is a new program we are offering at Gain Strength and Conditioning. It is going to help teach kids how to move, and how to live a healthy life so they can grow up strong and healthy with a good relationship with working out.

It is going to focus on undoing all of the screen time and sitting that kids do daily. Office workers often complain of sore necks and achy backs. Sitting down is just as damaging to kids. And not moving enough can lead to a sedentary lifestyle. We’ve all seen the statistics, childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 30 years and it has QUADRUPELDED in adolescents (CDC 2014).

Gain for Kids is a program that is built to teach kids basic exercises like bodyweight squats, push-ups, pull-ups, rows and basic core exercises. It will also focus on taking care of your body through soft-tissue work and flexibility training.  They will get stronger, move better, be more flexible and they will have fun doing it! It will also help improve their on the field performance and help prevent injuries.

There was a time, not too long ago that training for kids was taboo. People thought that it could be detrimental to growth and development. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Perform a Google search now, and you will be overwhelmed with all the information supporting it.

Gain for Kids is now being offered to middle school aged kids for a special price of only $99/month. Classes will be Tuesday/Thursday at 4:00pm.
