Athletes Don’t Wear Flip-Flops

I had some good discussions about spending more time barefoot yesterday.

Someone asked why I don’t wear sandals/flip flops, because they’re flat.

I was reminded of this video, that came out sometime in 2011. I haven’t worn flip-flops since.

Every time you take a step with a sandal that isn’t strapped on the heel, you need to clench down your toes to make them stay on. Little bit here and there no big deal. But spend 3 or 4 months every single summer with flip flops as your go to? Might not be the best move for foot health.

When I originally saw this video, I had just finished  playing college hockey. I was trying to figure out why I thought I was a fit, strong athlete but everything hurt all the time. Ditching sandals all together might have been on the extreme side, but it got me barefoot a lot more and 15 years later my feet and body have never felt better!
