HOT HOT HOT

Just a quick reminder to everyone that our bodies will adapt to the heat - you’ve just got to make sure you get exposed to it. Way to get some heat training in at the gym this week! One more reminder, you need to drink more water when it’s hot and you’re sweaty!

TRAINING RAMBLINGS

I’ve had another good week of training. I’ve shifted my focus away from running and instead just getting a productive workout done at the gym. It took a lot of reframing what I viewed as effective. Last year I was dialed in to running. I ran 6 races from 5k to mountain ultra and at the age of 36 ran a lifetime best 5k (19:41) and mile (5:31).

Then I spent from October till April not really sure what I was doing or training for. I ran and lifted but I was having a hard time getting in the groove, bouncing around and never consistent. And mostly, I just wasn’t doing much. It was hard to get to that place of focus I had last summer.

I thought I need another big goal race to target and that would get me inspired. I signed up for the VT100, and thought that would be the answer but I realized there’s just too much going on in my life right now to prioritize something like that. I withdrew from Vermont at the beginning of May. That removed the pressure and in a lot of ways freed my brain to have fun exercising again.

I’m not running Market Square Day, and I’m not quitting running all together either. Instead it feels like I’m getting back to my roots of training and having fun tinkering with lots of different things.

Oops

Muscles get all the hype in when popular media talks about strength training but really there so much more going on. The nervous system adaptations, tendon loading, and signals to grow bones are just as important as bigger muscles. If you never lifted anything in your 20s, 30s and 40s - get to deadlifting and squatting ASAP. If you’re younger, start laying down some strong bones now while it’s easy!

This one hit hard

This has made me laugh countless times this past week.

TEchnology

This was fun to see after spending a week tinkering with my fancy new weight room technology. They’re tracing the bar path on that board to see if the lifter is keeping the weight close and being efficient. Now your phone can do it for you!

KIller Style

Hate this rule

Weightlifting… No wieghtlifting….

Have a great day and see you in the gym!
