RELATIVELY Heavy
Recently I was working out while some clients were finishing up their session.
I was doing the following:
10 deadlifts
10 dips
10 inverted rows
This was a very simple workout. Lower body, push, pull. Basic. Fundamental movements.
I did 3 rounds—it took me about 40 minutes including my warm up.
Someone says: this is insane, what are you training for?
I sassily replied, life.
I’m not training for anything, And what do you mean this is insane? I’m doing the basics!
But it’s so heavy!
It’s relative!
In strength and conditioning we’re basically all doing the same thing.
Do the fundamental movement patterns and basic exercises well, then increase the intensity by adding load—relative to how strong you are.
The weights on my deadlift weren’t crazy, they were appropriate for what I was doing. It looked crazy because it was a lot of weight, from this person’s perspective. To me it was light.
But it was just the basics, done well, at a relative intensity.
