Friday Thoughts 131

Greetings! Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Thoughts where I share what’s been on my mind this week. Let’s get into it.

Ariel is back with more mobility for the summer! Join her Saturday mornings at 7:30 for a relaxing, flowy, stretch and mobility session. Starts next week on May 30.

SIGN UP (or use the Member’s App - Membership-Add New-Mobility Drop In- then sign up like any other session).

Training Ramblings

I’m stringing together another good week of training! I’ve been tinkering with my 100 pound sandbag, mixing in some olympic lifting, hitting Zercher squats frequently and I got two runs in this week too.

I’ve been trying to do things I’ve neglected like squatting and pedal to the metal conditioning workouts. I’ve been shaking up my training time too. Early mornings have been nice now that it’s warmer. I was skipping too many afternoon workouts and getting it done early in morning has felt good - even though it’s really hard to get out there some mornings.

Running Workouts

I used a lot of these last year getting ready for races. The alterations workout was brutal. I progressed it over a few weeks and blew up big time when I tried the 800/800 version, and still think about it today.

Stale?

Another lesson learned from Steve Magness. How to show up to a race with “pop” in your legs. I would deload too much and start a race with heavy legs. Doing strides and shorter, snappy workouts helped me mitigate this. It’s also a nice reminder that muscles get all the attention in regards to training, but the nervous system is what makes every thing happen.

Freaky Grip

From Hyrox Athlete (is that a thing?) Hunter McIntyre.

Throwback

To 315 × 20 reps on the deadlift. August 2021.
