Training Ramblings
I’ve strung together another solid week of training. Training at different times than “normal,” has been beneficial. It feels good to have some momentum. I’ve always loved power cleans, and lately, my technique feels dialed in. Which is surprising because I haven’t been doing them. Sometimes a break from a movement can let you get a better understanding of it.
Help Habits Stick
Plant Vs Kick Foot
I’ve talked a lot about this with clients over my career. If you’re a right-handed writer, chances are that you kick a ball with your right hand. When kicking that ball with your right foot, you must plant your left foot on the ground. That plant leg is where the stability comes from. The finesse comes from the right leg, the one kicking the ball. Same with a NFL kicker - major power coming from that non-dominant leg. Or imagine going for a layup - ball is in your right hand, you’ll probably jump off your left.
In this video Dylan talks about how to select which legs goes forward on a split jerk. It’s typically your plant leg, not your kicking leg. Which is true for me.
