Friday Thoughts 144
Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Thoughts, where I share what’s been on my mind this week. Let’s get into it.
Training Ramblings
Training has been steady, short and efficient lately. Many days if I don’t get it done early, I don’t have a chance to get it in. And as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t love training early in the morning, but that’s just what fits my life now. So even if it isn’t the most epic workout, something is better than nothing and I’ve been reminding myself of that. And, that winter is coming, and the garage gym isn’t going to feel luxurious once it hits 20 degrees.
Going Pro
I’ve been thinking about and having a lot of conversations about youth sports lately. And it seems like many people agree: kids shouldn’t play too many sports, or at least too much of one sport so that it takes over their lives. It increases injury risk, burn out and doesn’t develop as many athletic qualities when you’re exposed to more and varying movements. This post highlights that encouraging kids to be kids, and bike and run and play outside are equally as important as structured sports.
This always sounds like I’m anti-sport, which I definitely am not. I love sports, and think they’re important.
But many youth sports are set up to get kids to pro. And while maybe some outliers slip through the cracks and become pro, most kids do not. So should the system be set up for some of the kids to go pro while burning everyone else out? I don’t think so.
New Weights
In 2027, we’ll be replacing our weights with sculptures.
I’ll be at the gym all day today, see you there!
