Greetings! Happy Friday. Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Thoughts, where I share what’s been on my mind this week. Let’s get into it.
Training Ramblings
The highlight of my training week was split jerking 265. I haven’t put anything close to that heavy over my head in nearly 3 years. I’m highlighting it though because it’s a reminder that strength does not disappear when you stop touching the weights, so long as you have been doing it for a while. I have not been lifting heavy things over my head, but I have been lifting kind-of-heavy things over my head very consistently.
Strength does stick around, and does technique and skill if you’ve done some deliberate practice.
The second video is April 2024 @ my first weightlifting meet. I clean and jerk 123kg or 270 pounds.
Rogue Invitational
Speaking of heavy stuff, this weekend the Rogue Invitational is in Aberdeen, Scotland. The Invitational is a world-class fitness competition consisting of a strongman and CrossFit category. The weights are always really heavy and Rogue goes way over the top. I love watching this competition every year. They’re live right now on YouTube!
Power Hour
Speaking of strong people and impressive fitness-Brooke Wells is a long-time CrossFitter and incredible athlete. I was pumped to see this collab of Ilona Maher and Brooke lifting and hanging together. Hannah and I are going to watch this weekend. Shoutout to these strong, fit and athletic girls for being strong, fit, athletic and proud of it.
Brooke says her best power clean is 270 btw…
Huge Cheat Code
This has saved me so much time and money.
